I am interested in the scale of things and where things can be within that scale, and how that might change how things are viewed. I initially started with thoughts about how the size of my current town compared in size to Amsterdam in Holland. I was amazed to find that they are very similar in size. That is to say if you drew a line on a map across Auburn using Google Earth for a distance of five miles and compared it with a a map of Amsterdam it was the same size. I then thought it might be interesting to see how this would play out in various places around the world that I had visited or might currently be in the news for current events or of interest to me. Then I also thought it would be interesting to see it from different altitudes to get a new perspective. I chose 5 miles first so that you see a 5 mile line from an altitude of 5 miles and then you see the same line from 25 miles and then from 125 miles.
So here are the first images: Auburn above and Amsterdam below.

You can see the red lines drawn across the center of the cities and they are approximately 5 miles long. Auburn has a population of about 40000 people and Amsterdam has a population of 750000 in about the same area.
The next image is the same but from 25 miles up.

In the future I will be adding similar images of other places around the world to try to gain a 5 mile perspective on the world.
